What Makes Us Different?
Isn't it exciting that there are many who are out there working to supply women and girls with hygiene packets? Great organizations, groups, and successful distributions are moving forward every day. We are excited about the progress that is being made and heartily encourage this growth. But at the same time, we want to acknowledge that It's Our Mission: Period! (IOMP) is much more than just the provision of hygiene supplies; it is an equipping and empowering program that goes much further.
Some groups focus on reaching the masses, and there is such a great need. IOMP certainly endeavors to reach and supply all that we can, but for us it is more than "reaching the masses”; it's bringing a message to women. While providing hygiene packets is the first step, we believe it must be followed by another step -- that of bringing hope and empowerment. After the initial distribution of packets, the follow-up visit brings an opportunity of vocational training and empowerment which is a crucial step in the concept. And that’s where we are different!
We've developed a curriculum for school staff who, in turn, train their students to produce products for their classmates and eventually for the open market. We also launch the TOOLKIT PACKAGE and Empowerment Pack training system in community centers. We train women in making their own supplies and provide the tools and skills for launching their own micro-enterprise. The message we bring of breaking the lie that women are cursed, coupled with the equipping and empowering that comes with vocational training, leads to the end result:
What once held women captive . . . is now the very thing that sets them free.
