WHICH FABRIC?:  Our fabric was primarily donated and in various sizes and patterns. We simply wanted a colorful array of FUN to bring some smiles! Having a fabric drive/collection is a great first step to beginning this project with your group.

COTTON:
You may choose any patterned 100% cotton for your shields; we prefer colors and patterns to high stains.

FLANNEL:
The 2 exterior flannel layers of the 8x8 tri-fold liners should be patterned and bright to hide stains as well. The inner flannel layer of the 8x8 tri-fold liners can be of any color or pattern as it does not show. Although laundering the fabric is not required, it is a good practice due to fabric shrinkage.

LACES:

LACES FOR MARY BAGS: The laces we use for the Mary Bags can be purchased at Hobby Lobby. They are 45" in length and have a long tip on them.  You can also purchase the same type of lacing in larger skeins which is more economical but they will need to have the ends burned/tipped to prevent fraying.  Either option is fine.

INFO ON SNAPS AND PLIERS TO YOUR RIGHT
This is a video tutorial for the KAM Snap Pliers.
The woman is very thorough - be patient -
and it should answer all of your questions.

Diaper Sewing Supplies:  www.diapersewingsupplies.com

Dawn at Diaper Sewing Supplies believes in this project and with every purchase $15 or more, she is throwing in a free piece of PUL (big enough to make another shield) -- on your order -- and what woman can resist FREE?    So come 'on Ladies, let's support a woman in business and order our PUL from Dawn -- the best assortment and  prices  I've found for pretty PUL and snaps.  In addition to that, she is keeping shipping at cost so that's a great plus as well!  Be sure and mention 'It's Our Mission Period' when ordering -- let's show Dawn our appreciation of her supporting this project with new customers from It's Our Mission - Period!.

Patterned PUL: Diaper Sewing Supplies Company
has a nice variety of pretty PUL.
We used the patterned PUL for the Mary Bags
for the sake of appearance.

Solid PUL is fine for the inner layer of the shields.

SNAP PLIERS:
We chose this style below.  It can be purchased  from Diaper Sewing Supplies Company or in fabric/hobby stores.

We recommend the Size 20 snaps. You will need 2 caps for each stud and socket -- all of this is explained on the website to assist you in ordering. The caps, studs and sockets are sold separately. If you are making 100 shields, you will need: 200 caps; 100 studs; & 100 sockets.

(If you choose not to apply the snaps, we will apply them for you; we discourage the use of velcro ~ thank you.)
